Valentine's Day is one of the best holidays in the year because no matter if you’re single or in a relationship, everyone can enjoy the heart-shaped desserts and of course, the music without the same pressure that holidays like Christmas have. As someone who is chronically single, I feel I am clearly extremely qualified to make this list of my most favourite love songs in no particular order. I hope this list inspires all the couples who are unprepared for Valentine's Day to make a playlist or burn a CD for their loved ones!!!
'Falling In Love' // Cigarettes After Sex
While I said no particular order, this is the only song in the list that has to be first. described by the lead singer Greg Gonzalez as ‘cosmic’, this song is not only my favourite song, but it inspired this list. For anyone struggling in a long-distance relationship, this song will speak to you.
'Lovesong' // beabadoobee
This one is for the girls! Fun, idyllic and sweet Bea paints a beautiful, picturesque romance in this ballad.
'UNDERSTAND' // keshi
This 2 m 30 seconds long love song is short but sweet and hugely underrated. if you’re a big fan of a strong classic-inspired instrumental, this one is definitely for you!
'My Love Mine All Mine' // Mitski
‘To love is truly the best and most beautiful thing I ever did’.
This song is a little different from other inclusions in the list. Mitski writes less about a love for someone else but more about a love she feels towards the world, her work and her life. As I mentioned in the intro, I find that Valentine’s is about love for everyone regardless of relationship status and this inclusion is for all single people who should know this.
'bad' // wave to earth
Go listen to wave to earth, you won't regret it.
'God Only Knows' // The Beach Boys
Real ones love this song from Skins. One of Paul McCartney’s favourite songs and it deserves a mention.
'Make You Feel My Love' // Bob Dylan/Adele
It's not a list of love songs if Adele isn't included even if as a cover, and this song holds a special place in my heart and that of any glee lovers who watched s5 e3.
'Mirrors' // Justin Timberlake
Finally, a classic to end the list. Who knew Justin Timberlake knew anything about being twin flames (or romance in general).....
