Luna Rosa Return Loud and Loose on ‘The Luge’
Luna Rosa are the kind of band whose presence precedes them. From the moment they step on the stage to long after they get off it, their energy pulls you towards them and doesn’t let go, making a twenty-minute set fly by in the blink of an eye. Their catchy riffs and upbeat drum patterns create an addictive sound, especially on their long-awaited new single ‘The Luge’. The band cite Foals, The Clash, Led Zeppelin and Editors as key influences, but their voice is unmistakably unique, described in our interview by the band themselves as “very fucking loud”, which is undoubtedly the best way for good music to be enjoyed.
Formed in their hometown of Corby, Northamptonshire, Luna Rosa have spent nearly eight years together venturing across an impressive array of venues throughout the United Kingdom, such as Millwall, Isle of Dogs, Luton Castle, MK 11 Milton Keynes, London Bombshelter and The Finsbury, to name a few. They do not limit themselves, however, and have also made an appearance in a couple venues in the south of France. Looking ahead, the band want to play at the Brixton Academy, Reading Festival and Glastonbury, which I personally believe is achievable considering their powerful stage presence and memorable songs.

Their new single ‘The Luge’ was born from a riff created by their drummer, Jack Connolly, during a drunken jam in South America. This is clear in the way that Rory McDade’s guitar follows Connolly’s hazy drumbeat, almost skipping and falling over itself to create an urgent post-punk drive. Accents of pandemonium from Aidan Furrey’s lead guitar and Cam Latta’s bass catapult the listener into a song that shouts, or rather spits, back: leaping “out of the furnace, into the fire”. McDade’s abrasive vocals deliver cries for war, invoking the Latin “Parabellum” popularised by John Wick, behind a wave of instrumental chaos that can only be described as disorientating in the best way possible.
A groovy dance-punk track that promises to knock you off your feet, ‘The Luge’ serves as a relentless promise of what’s to come. Luna Rosa, who plan to tour throughout the year, follow this musical onslaught with a clear dedication to their craft. And trust me, the raw intensity only gets better when you hear it live.
